Sustainability at Croydon West Primary School

Follow the sustainable journey of our small school, Croydon West Primary School. We believe in providing learning opportunities through which our students can connect with nature, investigate environmental issues and develop a sense of wonder and enthusiasm for our planet.

Student Artworks Inspired by the Environment

Every opportunity is taken to engage our students using our school gardens during Art Sessions.  Our different gardens throughout the seasons provide inspiration for a variety of art making. Working outside brings about new challenges and the need to explore  the use of a wide range of media, arts elements and principles.
Students collected natural objects found in our school gardens to create these beautiful Fairy Houses. They also used shells, seed pods, rocks, natural fabrics etc. in their designs.

Felting has been a favourite of the students and mine and I love what the kids have achieved. They were asked to create something inspired by our vegetable gardens. We began by wet felting our piece and then added detail using a dry felting needle. This can be quite hazardous if you are not concentrating (stabbed fingers) but we had no injuries and the results are fabulous!
Sunflowers growing in our garden inspired these art works by our Level 1 and 2 students.

Level 1 and 2 enjoyed making these felted art works.
