Sustainability at Croydon West Primary School

Follow the sustainable journey of our small school, Croydon West Primary School. We believe in providing learning opportunities through which our students can connect with nature, investigate environmental issues and develop a sense of wonder and enthusiasm for our planet.

Peace Garden

In our Peace Garden, we have constructed a straw bale rendered seat which has been placed under shady trees. This garden has plants from different parts of the world, symbolic plants of peace (olive tree, rosemary), plants which are in the colours of peace (blue and white) and pleasant scented plants. Peace flags designed and painted by our students and ceramic peace doves are part of this garden. Small clay sculptures of circles of friends which have been created by our students, sit among the plants.

Our ceramic doves were made by our students as a symbol of peace.

Our Peace Flags were made by our students some time ago. In the spirit of Tibetan Prayer Flags we have left these up for many years until they began to break down. Level 4 students have recently replaced these with new flags.

This is one of our Circle of Friends sculptures in our Peace garden. Often we find that students have decorated this area with some of the beautiful flowers and leaves from our gardens.
